In 1918 during the reign of King George V, the Royal Mint opened a branch mint in Bombay, India. For a few short months, the Royal Mint in Bombay produced Indian Gold Full Sovereign Coins with a special Mint Mark of "I" for India and was never to be struck again. Nearly 100 years later the Royal Mint was granted by Indian Government to strike a Limited Issue 2013-I Gold Full Sovereign Coin with a special Mint Mark of "I" and have been released every year since (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 , 2018, 2019 and 2020) and in 2014 for the first time in history a Limited Issue India Half Sovereign Gold Coin. All the India Sovereign Coins depict Pistrucci's St George Slaying the Dragon and have been struck in solid 22 Carat Gold with the Full Sovereign Coin Weighing 7.98 Grams with a Diameter of 22.05mm while the Half Sovereign Coin Weighs 3.99 Grams with a Diameter of 19.30mm. |
