In July 1987 the Royal Mint was authorised by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II to issue United Kingdom Britannia Gold Coins in Gold Bullion and Limited Mintage Proof versions, from 1997 Britannia Silver Proof Coins and in 1998 Silver Bullion, and then in 2007 the first Britannia Platinum Proof Coin. Named after the symbolic figure of Britannia, who graces the reverse design, the Britannia coins in Gold are available in nine denominations: £1,000, £500, £200, £100, £50, £25, £10, £1 and 50p Coins and in Britannia Silver also available in nine denominations: £500, £10, £5, £2, £1, 50p, 20p, 10p and a 5p Coin and in Platinum £100, £50, £25 and £10 Coins. |
