British Piedfort Gold Coins
| Browse our range of British Piedfort Gold Proof Coins issued by the Royal Mint which were first introduced by the Royal Mint in 2009 struck in solid 22 Carat Gold and include Piedfort Gold Coin Sets, Piedfort Sovereign Gold Coins and Piedfort 50p Gold Proof Coins. Piedforts are coins which have been specially struck on thicker than normal blanks. As their name suggests they are closely associated with France, where from the twelfth century they were apparently issued by the Kings as presentation pieces. In Britain the practise of striking Piedforts is later and less frequent, but medieval and Tudor examples are known. |
