In 2018 to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Paddington Bear, the Royal Mint released a special Limited Issue Paddington Bear at Buckingham Palace 50p Fifty Pence Silver Proof Coin struck in solid .925 Sterling Silver colourised by the Royal Mint Certified Slabbed and Graded by PCGS as PR69 DCAM and is the second coin in the series.
The reverse designed by David Knapton features Paddington wearing his famous outfit, with Buckingham Palace in the background. This is where he met Her Majesty The Queen, who is said to be very fond of bears! When Mr Gruber takes Paddington to Buckingham Palace to watch the Changing of the Guard, there are so many people in the way he can’t see a thing. Luckily, a mysterious someone ‘on high’ appears to like small bears and Paddington is invited inside the gates so that Mr Gruber can take a photograph for Paddington’s scrapbook.
While the obverse features the Fifth Portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark.
These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
