In 2014 to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Australian Red Cross, the Perth Mint released a special Limited Issue Red Cross $ 1 One Dollar Silver Proof Coin struck in fine .999 Silver weighing one ounce of pure Silver.
The reverse designed series of black and white photographs representative of the broad cross-section of society that Australian Red Cross assists. The design also includes an image of a World War I nurse.
The inscriptions 100 YEARS PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE and THE POWER OF HUMANITY, Australian Red Cross centenary logo, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ Mint Mark also appear in the design.
The obverse features Ian Rank Broadley's portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
