In 2014 to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Australian Military Aviation, the Perth Mint released a special Limited Issue Australian Military Aviation $1 One Dollar Silver Proof Coin struck in fine .999 Silver weighing one ounce of pure Silver.
The reverse designed by Wade Robinson features a representation of an airplane propeller with a Bristol Boxkite flying under the propeller blade, and an F/A-18 Hornet fighter aircraft soaring above the blade with the inscription 100th ANNIVERSARY OF AUSTRALIAN MILITARY AVIATION, the dates 1914 – 2014, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark also included in the design.
The obverse features Ian Rank Broadley's portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
