In 2013 to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of Benjamin Britten, the Royal Mint released a very Limited Issue Benjamin Britten 50p Fifty Pence Gold Proof Coin struck in solid 22 Carat Gold.
The reverse designed by Tom Phillips celebrates Britten's work with some of the words he set to music in 'Serenade' by the poet Tennyson and is the first time a composer has been featured on a UK coin.
The obverse design is the stunning portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank Broadley.
These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
