In 2009, for the first time ever, the Royal Mint released St George and the Dragon Gold Proof Quarter Sovereign Coin struck in solid 22 Carat Gold which is housed in a handsome walnut-veneer presentation case and is accompanied by an individually numbered Certificate of Authenticity signed by the Chief Executive of the Royal Mint.
Each of the 22 Carat Gold Proof Quarter Sovereigns feature the legendary St George and The Dragon reverse design by Benedetto Pistrucci, together with the portrait of Her Majesty, The Queen by Ian Rank Broadley FRBS on the obverse. These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
