In 2008 to commemorate the Last of the Emblems of Britain Coinage, the Royal Mint released a very Limited Issue Scottish Thistle 5p Five Pence Gold Proof Coin struck in solid 22 Carat Gold Certified Slabbed and Graded by PCGS as PR69 DCAM.
The reverse of the 5p Five Pence Gold Proof Coin features the familiar design of the Badge of Scotland, a thistle, royally crowned. The design, by Christopher Ironside, was the first used on the 5p Five Pence piece in 1968.
The obverse design features Ian Rank Broadley's portrait of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.
These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
