In 2008 to celebrate the Royal Canadian Mint's 100th Anniversary, the Royal Canadian Mint released a very special Limited Issue $1 One Dollar Silver Proof Coin struck in solid .925 Sterling Silver and partly plated in pure Gold.
The reverse designed by Jason Bouwman and features two iconic symbols of Canada - a Maple Leaf and common Loon emerging from a coin: one transforming into the other on the winds of change that have shaped the Mint's success during it's first centennial.
The obverse a stunning portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
