In 2007, to celebrate the Tercentenary of the Act of Union between England and Scotland, the Royal Mint released a Limited Issue Act of Union £2 Two Pound Silver Proof Coin struck in solid .925 Sterling Silver.
The reverse design by Yvonne Holton divides the coin into four quarters, with a rose and a thistle occupying two of the quarters and a portcullis in each of the other two quarters. The whole is overlaid with a linking jigsaw motif and surrounded by the dates "1707" and "2007" and the denomination "TWO POUNDS" with an edge inscription "UNITED INTO ONE KINGDOM".
The obverse is a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Ian Rank Broadley.
These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
