In 2006 the South African Mint in conjunction with the Berlin Mint released a Limited Issue Prestige Krugerrand Gold Proof Coin Set and celebrates this historic link between South Africa and Germany.
Included is a one-tenth of an ounce solid 22 C arat Gold proof Krugerrand and a replica of the original 1 Penny Silver Proof Coin struck in solid .925 Sterling issued in 1892 completes the set.
The reverse of the coins designed by Coert Steynberg depicts a Springbok Antelope one of the national symbols of South Africa and the obverse of all the coins have the portrait of Paul Kruger.
These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
