To continue the theme of Giants of Africa series the 2005 coin depicts the South African Hippo in all its glory. A hippo cow and her offspring grazing on the river shore are depicted on the reverse side of this 1/4oz gold coin together with the word 'Natura' and the denomination 'R20'. On the obverse side, a portrait of a hippo is featured together with the words 'South Africa' and the year '2005'. These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
