In 2003 the Royal Mint released a very Limited Issue St George and the Dragon Gold Proof Full Sovereign Coin struck in solid 22 Carat Gold Certified Slabbed and Graded by PCGS as PR69 DCAM.
Pistrucci's St George, seemingly inseparable from the British Sovereign, is acclaimed throughout the world as a masterpiece of numismatic art. It's appeal has been so enduring that it has now graced the reverse of nearly every Sovereign issued since the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1887 and was extended to the Half Sovereign in 1893.
The 2003 Gold Proof Full Sovereign is particularly significant, being issued in the year that Her Majesty, The Queen celebrates the 50th Anniversary of her Coronation.
The reverse carries Pistrucci's classic design of St George Slaying The Dragon while the obverse depicts Ian Rank Broadley's elegant portrait of the Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
