In 2003 to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Cullinan, the South African Mint released a special Limited Issue Launch Mint Mark Krugerrand 2 Coin Set which includes a solid 22 Carat Gold Proof 1oz Full Krugerrand with a special Mint Mark to commemorate the Centenary of the town of Cullinan, and the Diamond Mining in Cullinan and a solid .925 Sterling Silver Proof Medallion with a genuine Diamond set in the Medallion.
The 2003 Mint Mark Krugerrand Launch coins are the first coins to be minted 645 feet underground. The reverse of the coin designed by Coert Steynberg depicts a Springbok Antelope one of the national symbols of South Africa and the obverse has the portrait of Paul Kruger. These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
