2002 Golden Jubilee Maundy Gold Proof 4 Coin Set

In 2002 to celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee, the Royal Mint released a very Limited Issue Maundy Gold Proof 4 Coin Set all struck in solid 22 Carat Gold and includes the 4D Four Pence down to the 1D One Pence.

The reverse design of each coin depicts a crowned numeral in a wreath of oak leaves while the obverse depicts the stunning young head portrait of Elizabeth II by Mary Gillick.

Maundy Money, legally called "the Queen's Maundy Money" is a welcoming British coinage given to deserving poor people in a religious ceremony performed, in many periods with the participation of the monarch, on Maundy Thursday, the Thursday before Easter.
