In 2001 the Royal Mint released a very Limited Issue St George and the Dragon Gold Proof Full Sovereign Coin struck in solid 22 Carat Gold and has been Certified Slabbed and Graded by PCGS as PR69 DCAM.
Acclaimed all over the world as a masterpiece of numismatic art, Pistrucci's St George appeared, with the sole exception of the special commemorative gold coins of 1989, on every Sovereign and Half Sovereign issued throughout the 20th Century.
It is gratifying, therefore, that it should take the gold coinage into the 21st Century, gracing the reverse of the first Sovereigns and Half Sovereigns.
The obverse features the portrait of the Queen by Ian Rank Broadley FRBS, FSNAD.
These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
