In 2000, the Royal Mint in conjunction with the Bank of England released a very special Limited Issue £10 Ten Pound Banknote and Queen Mother Centenary £5 Five Pound Silver Proof Coin Set to commemorate the Centenary of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother.
The reverse of the Silver Proof £5 Five Pound Crown features a portrait of The Queen Mother with a background of cheering crowds in two modes of dress. Those who rejoice at her birth and those who celebrate her centenary. Below the portrait appears, with kind permission, a representation of her signature.
To mark centenary of the Queen Mother, The Bank of England has produced this £10 Ten Pound Banknote that bears a unique commemorative cypher, which will not be produced for general circulation. This note is of the current series in issue and shows the cypher QM10 0 and a serial number between 000001 and 000750.
The Bank of England have issued this special cypher in honour of this very special occasion. QM 10 will not be produced for general circulation and therefore these are the only notes to have this cypher. These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
