In 1998, the Royal Mint in conjunction with the Bank of England released a very special Limited Issue £10 Ten Pound Banknote and Prince Charles £5 Five Pound Silver Proof Coin Set to commemorate the Prince of Wales 50th Birthday.
The £10 Ten Pound Banknote is of the current series in issue and shows the cypher PW50 and a serial number between 1 and 500.
The Bank of England have issued this cypher in honour of this very special occasion. PW50 will not be produced for general circulation and therefore these are the only notes to have this cypher.
The new £5 Five Pound Silver Proof Coin of Royal Mint Boxed with Certificate of Authenticity1998 celebrates the Fiftieth Birthday of the Prince of Wales and is struck in Sterling (.925) Silver to Proof Quality.
The reverse is designed by Michael Noakes and features a portrait of the Prince of Wales with key words relating to the work of The Trust in the background.
Gracing the obverse of the Fiftieth Birthday Crown is the new effigy of Her Majesty, The Queen by sculptor and medallist Ian Rank Broadley.
These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
A maximum of 500 sets will be issued.
