In 1997, the Royal Mint in conjunction with the Bank of England released a very special Limited Issue Golden Wedding £5 Five Pound Silver Proof Coin and £10 Ten Pound Banknote Set to commemorate the Golden Wedding Anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.
The £10 Ten Pound Banknote is of the current series in issue and shows the cypher HM50 and a serial number between 1 and 1500.
The Bank of England have issued this cypher in honour of this very special occasion. HM50 will not be produced for general circulation and therefore these are the only notes to have this cypher.
The new £5 Five Pound Silver Proof Coin of 1997 celebrates the Golden Wedding Anniversary of the Queen and Prince Philip and is struck in solid .925 Sterling Silver to Proof Quality.
The reverse is designed by Leslie Durbin and combines the Royal Arms and the Arms of Prince Philip. Above the Arms is a Royal Crown beneath them is an anchor representing the Prince's naval career.
These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
A maximum of 1,500 of this sets have been issued.
