In 1994, the Royal Mint in conjunction with the Bank of England released a very special Limited Issue Kentfield £50 Fifty Pound Banknote and D-Day Landings 50p Fifty Pence Silver Proof Coin Set to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings.
The Kentfield £50 Fifty Pound Banknote Series E was issued on the 20th April 1994 and shows the cypher A01.
The Bank of England have issued this cypher in honour of this very special occasion. A01 is the first run of banknotes produced for general circulation.
The new 50p Fifty Pence Silver Proof Coin of 1994 commemorates the 50th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings and is struck in Sterling (.925) Silver to Proof Quality.
The design was created by award-winning sculptor John Mills and was inspired by his boyhood recollections of that historic day. Looking up at the sky he saw it filled with distinctively marked planes and realized that the invasion of France was underway.
The obverse, designed by Raphael Maklouf, bears an elegant portrait of the Queen.
These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
A maximum of 750 sets will be issued.
