In 1990, the Royal Mint in conjunction with the Bank of England released a very special Limited Issue £5 Five Pound Banknote and £5 Five Pound Silver Proof Coin set to celebrate the 90th Birthday of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother.
The £5 Five Pound Banknote is one of the first in the new series and shows the very collectable cypher A01 and a serial number between 002401 and 003503.
The new £5 Five Pound Crown of 1990 celebrates the 90th Birthday of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and is struck in Sterling (.925) Silver to Proof Quality.
The reverse design has been created by acclaimed silversmith Leslie Durbin.
The design features the Queen Mother's initial letter, in duplicate and interlaced, shown in the form of a cypher and ensigned by the Royal Crown. The obverse is the couped effigy of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II Raphael Maklouf.
These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
A maximum of 500 sets will be issued.
