In 1980 to celebrate the Lunar Year of the Monkey, the Royal Mint released a very Limited Issue Lunar Monkey $1000 One Thousand Dollar Gold Proof Coin struck in solid 22 Carat Gold on behalf of the Hong Kong Government and has been Certified Slabbed and Graded by PCGS as PR69 DCAM with special NFC Anti-Counterfeiting Technology.
The reverse design depicts an artists impression of a species of Monkey commonly found in Hong Kong and China.
The obverse has Arnold Machin's portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
