In 1979 the Royal Mint released a Limited Issue Portcullis 1p One Pence Proof Coin.
The reverse design depicts a Portcullis with chains while the obverse features Arnold Machins portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
