In 2004 to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings, the Royal Mint in conjunction with Westminster, released a very Limited Issue D-Day Landings £5 Five Pound Gold Proof Coin Hand Painted First Day Cover struck in solid 22 Carat Gold.
The reverse designed David Cornell depicts the troops landing at Omaha Beach while the obverse has a portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Raphael Maklouf. These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
