In 2001, to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Death of Queen Victoria, the Royal Mint released a special Limited Issue Victorian Anniversary Gold 5 Coin Collection which includes a £5 Five Pound Gold Matt Proof Coin and a type set of 4 Gold Full Sovereign Coins.
Both the Crown and the Sovereigns have formed part of the currency since Tudor times and both still enjoy worldwide popularity with collectors. Within the Set are four Queen Victoria Full Sovereigns, Veiled Head, Jubilee Head, Young Head and a Young Head Shield Sovereign. Also included is the Victorian Anniversary £5 Five Pound Gold Matt Proof Coin which features on both the reverse and obverse a frosted field with a polished royal portrait instead of the normal frosted features with a mirror background.
