In 1987 the United States Mint released a Limited Issue Liberty Eagle $50 Fifty Dollar Gold Coin struck in solid 22 Carat Gold and weighs one ounce of pure Gold.
The coin features a design symbolic of Liberty on the obverse with MCMLXXXVII.
On the reverse is a design representing a family of eagles, with the male eagle carrying an olive branch and flying above a nest containing a female eagle and hatchlings.
The coins have the inscription of the denominations, the weight of the gold content, the year of minting of issuance, the words Liberty, In God We Trust, United States of America , and a reeded edge, as stipulated by Law.
