In 1981 the South African Mint released a very Limited Issue Full Krugerrand Gold Proof Coin struck in solid 22 Carat Gold weighing one ounce of pure Gold and struck to a Proof Finish.

The reverse of the coin designed by Coert Steynberg depicts a Springbok Antelope one of the national symbols of South Africa and the obverse has the portrait of Paul Kruger.
These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
