For 2016 the Royal Mint have released a special new series of Silver and Gold Coins celebrating British Monarchs and the centuries of Heraldry.
The first coin in the series of 10, celebrates the Lion of England and has been issued as a £5 Five Pound Silver Coin struck in solid 999.9 Silver weighing two ounces of pure Silver.
The reverse features a stylized image of the Lion of England holding the shield of the Royal Family while the obverse features the Fifth Portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark .
The 10 Queen's heraldic beasts present at the Queen's Coronation in 1953 were as follows: L ion of England, the Griffin of Edward III, the Falcon of the Plantagenets, the Black Bull of Clarence, the Yale of Beaufort, the White Lion of Mortimer, the White Greyhound of Richmond, the Red Dragon of Wales, the Unicorn of Scotland, and the White Horse of Hanover.
