In 2015 to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, the Perth Mint released a very Limited Issue Alice in Wonderland $2 Two Dollar Silver Coin struck in solid fine .999 Silver with an Antique Finish and weighs two ounces of pure Silver from the issuing country of Tuvalu.
The reverse designed by Aleysha Howarth depicts Alice, the Cheshire cat, and several playing cards around the edge, with the White Rabbit featured on the face of a clock in the middle of the coin.
The clock design includes the inscription ‘Oh dear! Oh dear! I shall be late!’ and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ Mint Mark. A quote from the book, “Oh my ears and whiskers, how late it’s getting!” is also included on the back of the clock in a spiral form.
The coin also features a working Clock and batteries which should be replaced every three years or whenever timekeeping becomes erratic.
The obverse design bears the elegant portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank Broadley.
These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
