In 2013 to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of Benjamin Britten, the Royal Mint released a very Limited Issue Benjamin Britten 50p Fifty Pence Gold Proof Coin Struck in solid 22 Carat Gold .

The reverse designed by Tom Phillips celebrates Britten's work with some of the words he set to music in 'Serenade' by the poet Tennyson and is the first time a composer has been featured on a UK coin.
The obverse design is the stunning portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank Broadley.
