In 2007 to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the first Britannia, the Royal Mint released a very Limited Issue Britannia £1 One Pound Silver Matte Proof Coin struck in solid .958 Silver and weighing one half of an ounce of pure Silver and depicts the first original Britannia design from 1987.
Philip Nathan's original portrait showed Britannia as both warrior and peacemaker. Standing at the shoreline with hair and gown streaming in the sea breeze, she guards the nation's shores while her love of peace is symbolised in the sprig of olive clasped in her left hand. The obverse designed By Ian Rank Broadley is the stunning effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
