In 1994 to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings, the Royal Mint released a very Limited Issue £2 Two Pound Silver Proof Coin struck in solid .925 Sterling Silver.
The reverse design is by the artist and sculptor John Savage, and depicts assault landing craft, commandos, HMS Ajax which was in the Battle of the River Plate, and Spitfire fighters. These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
