In 1992 - 1993 to celebrate the United Kingdoms Presidency of the Council of Ministers in 1992, the Royal Mint released a Limited Issue Brilliant Uncirculated Presidency 50p Fifty Pence 2 Coin Set.
The first coin designed by Mary Millner Dickens symbolizes the special bond between the twelve member states.
The twelve stars are placed in the geographic positions of the capital cities and the network of lines indicate the trade and commercial links within the community.
The coin is accompanied by the more familiar 50p Fifty Pence which bears Christopher Ironside's seated figure of Britannia.
Both carry Raphael Maklouf's portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
