In 1986 to celebrate the Football World Cup, the Banco de Mexico released a Limited Issue Football World Cup Gold Proof 4 Coin Set struck a solid fine .900 Gold.
The obverse features an eagle battling a snake (Mexico's national coat of arms), which is surrounded by a wreath and the words "ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS". Encircling the center are ten eagle designs that have been used as National Emblems through the centuries, including one depicted in the 16th century Mendocino Codex fineness and amount of gold, the date, and the name of the issuing country ('MEXICO').
The collection includes two 500 Pesos Gold Proof Coins and two 250 Pesos Gold Proof Coins and is presented boxed with Certificate of Authenticity.
These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
